Avoid These Toxic Foods For Pets

Are you tired of visiting the vet virtually every other week of the month? Take a moment and think of the things you are doing wrong. For starters, what do you feed your pets? Your four-legged buddies may fit the bill of a companion, but it is crucial to know they are not humans.Consequently, some human foods are instead poisonous to your pets. While you may feel you are giving your pets a treat, you are feeding them with something toxic.

According to information from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), pet owners should be mindful of these foods while feeding their four-legged buddies. Check them out!

5 Human Foods That Could Harm Your Pets

  • Milk and Dairy. Humans possess a milk-digesting enzyme called lactase. Lactase helps humans to metabolize lactose, the sugar present in milk and dairy-based products, to simple sugars such as galactose and glucose that are readily absorbed by the body. Unfortunately, pets lack this milk-digesting enzyme. Consequently, feeding them with milk or other dairy-based product lead to digestive upset. Such a diet could lead to diarrhea, which means visiting the Vet yet again. Be careful!
  • Alcohol and its Products. Unlike the human body, alcohol and its products are harmful foods to pets. A little amount could cause central nervous system depression, vomiting, abnormal blood acidity, coma, or worse death in pets. Steer clear!
  • Raw Meat, Bones, and Eggs. Raw meat and eggs are harmful to both humans and animals. True, wild animals feed on raw meat, but they are better adapted compared to domestic pets. Furthermore, raw eggs contain avidin, an enzyme that decreases the absorption of B vitamin which when absent could lead to skin and coat problems.
  • Coconut and Coconut-based Products. Coconut oil and coconut water are profoundly harmful to pets. A little amount could lead to stomach upset and diarrhea. Therefore, experts advise pet owners to either stay away from these products or be mindful of the quantity they feed their pets.
  • Salty Snacks. Ingesting a large amount of salt is not healthy for humans and animals alike. A large amount of salt may lead to vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, seizures, and worse death due to sodium ion poisoning. Do not allow your pets near salty snacks. Be vigilant!

Spoiling your pets from time to time is okay. However, do it with extreme caution. Be sure to avoid these foods like the plague while feeding your pets!
